Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool have joined the race to land Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez during this month’s transfer window.
Sanchez, 29, has been a star for Arsenal since signing from Barcelona back in the summer of 2014, notching a superb record of 80 goals in 165 games.
The Chilean forward has been a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, but he now looks set to leave North London at some point within in the next six months, given that his contract expires at the end of the season.
With no new deal looking likely, Premier League rivals are looking to land him, with The Mirror reporting that Liverpool have now joined Manchester City and Manchester United in the race for his signature.
It’s claimed that Arsenal want £35million for Sanchez, and having sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142million, Liverpool have no qualms about meeting the asking price for Sanchez.
However, the report notes that City – who are managed by Sanchez’s former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola – are prepared to offer wages of £285,000-a-week, with United ready to go to £300,000 to land him.
Liverpool may now quite have the funds to challenge those two clubs, but with Jurgen Klopp keen to bring in a world-class attacker to replace Coutinho, the Fenway Sports Group may yet be asked to splash the cash.
A move to the north appears to be on the cards for Sanchez one way or another, and Liverpool will now be hoping to make a real statement by luring the Chilean to Anfield this month.
