Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has been offered a £35,000-a-week contract at Fenerbahce with the Switzerland international expected to move on after another year on the bench at Anfield, according to Fotomac.

Maybe Arno Rossini was right after all.

Speaking to Tio earlier this month, the Swiss coach claimed that, while Shaqiri boasts a CV that most footballers would give their right arm for, the stocky schemer will not exactly go down in history despite his trophy-laden spells at Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

“Xherdan is not a champion,” Rossini said in rather brutal fashion.

“Over the years, he has often watched the games of his teams as a spectator, sitting on the bench.”

Shaqiri might have achieved something Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres never did on Merseyside, winning the Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp this season.

But the former Stoke City talisman has played a limited role to say the least, starting just two out of Liverpool’s 36 games and tallying 182 minutes of football all season.

So it remains to be seen whether the 28-year-old, in what should be the peak of his career, is happy with life as an afterthought at Anfield.

A move to an underachieving Fenerbahce side would at least give Shaqiri the regular first-team football he has been craving over the last two seasons.

According to Fotomac, the 19-time Turkish champions have put a £35,000-a-week offer on the table.

Yet, with Shariqi wanting closer to £50,000-a-week, he might be set for another season on the sidelines unless he lowers his demands.
