Liverpool are interested in signing Sander Berge from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021, according to Eurosport.
It has been reported that Aston Villa have also been interested in the midfielder, and now defending Premier League champions Liverpool have joined the race.
The report has claimed that Liverpool are planning to make an offer for the Norway international, who joined the Blades for £22 million in 2020 and is almost certain to leave the club, who are likely to go down to the Championship at the end of the season.
It has been suggested in the report that the Merseyside club see Berge as a potential replacement for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum – who has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Newcastle United for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million and is out of contract at the end of the season.
Sander Berge to Liverpool?
Berge is 23 years of age and has done well for United so far, and the youngster would be a good signing for Liverpool at the right price.
The Norway international midfielder has been on the sidelines since December due to injury to a tendon in his leg, and the Blades have severely missed him.
Berge is a dynamic midfielder who would make the Reds stronger in the middle of the park, and given his age, he could further improve and get better.
According to WhoScored, Berge scored one goal and provided one assist in 13 Premier League games for the Blades this season before his injury.
