According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli has become a target for Palermo.

The report claims that Palermo’s president called Balotelli and the player responded by giving the go-ahead to join the Sicily-based club, yet the initial offer to Liverpool was low and a compromise needs to be reached.

Balotelli has been heavily linked with an Anfield exit this summer, but few clubs have made any real attempt to sign the player as a result of his large wages and troubled past few seasons.

There is no doubt the Italy international boasts plenty of quality, but his attitude both on and off the pitch is questionable and his salary has ultimately priced a number of potential suitors out of a deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that the striker will not be a part of his plans for the season, though it remains to be seen whether the Reds would be willing to help subsidise a deal.

The latest reports in Italy claim the Merseyside club must contribute a considerable amount to the potential Balotelli-Palermo operation, while the player himself needs to consider the financial aspects of the deal.

The former Manchester City man has made just 28 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool since joining the club in the summer of 2014, scoring four goals.
