Liverpool have made the first move in a bid to sign the Portuguese international.
According to a report from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Liverpool have opened talks regarding the possible signing of William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.
The Reds were in Lisbon to discuss the termination of Lazar Markovic’s loan deal in order for him to move to Hull City in the remaining days of the transfer window. However, while there Liverpool are said to have discussed the prospect of bringing William to Anfield.

The defensive midfielder has long been touted as the next bigthing in Portuguese football, but since his breakthrough campaign at Sporting the hype has died down somewhat.
A whole host of English clubs were said to be looking at William in the past but now Liverpool may be the ones to take the plunge.

The 24-year-old has featured 29 times for Sporting this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process, while he has racked up 141 matches for the Portuguese club to date, scoring nine and setting up 11.
There is no doubt William is a gifted midfielder who could take the Premier League by storm, but it will take a bid of at least £25.8million to seal a deal.
In the current market that is relatively cheap, especially if William ultimately fulfils his potential under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
