According to Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool are interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion playmaker Pascal Gross.

TMW covering a possible move involving only Premier League teams sounds dubious, but this report does include information from Italy in that Gross isn’t ruling out a move to Serie A.

They may well have learned of Liverpool’s interest when finding out that information, with Gross allegedly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.

How did Gross perform for Brighton last season?

Gross registered three goals and eight assists for Brighton last season, impressing more with his creativity than his goalscoring – as has often been the case.

The German showed his versatility more than ever, playing as a holding midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder and even as a right-sided wing back.

One of Graham Potter’s most reliable performers, Gross only missed four games last season, which could be a factor in Liverpool’s interest.

Potter has even hailed Gross for being able to see passes that others can’t, highlighting his guile and creativity in the final third.

Does Gross make sense for Liverpool?

Not really. He’s an experienced Premier League performer, and that always comes in handy when you play as many games across all competitions as Liverpool do.

Yet Gross turns 30 today, meaning he doesn’t really fit Michael Edwards’ usual policy of signing young players with potential to develop at Anfield.

Liverpool may well want a midfielder after losing Georginio Wijnaldum, but Gross just didn’t fit the bill for the Reds.
