Liverpool have joined the race for Fikayo Tomori as they consider bringing in the AC Milan star to help Jurgen Klopp’s back line.
That is according to 90Min, who claim that Liverpool are keen ‘admirers’ of Tomori and his qualities.
The report notes that Manchester United and Newcastle United scouted Tomori in action for Milan against Roma on Saturday.
Chelsea – the club who sold Tomori to Milan for £25million in 2021 – are even thought to have been watching him too.
There is mounting interest from Premier League clubs with some clubs seemingly believing that Tomori can be tempted back to England.
That won’t come cheap though; the 25-year-old is a vital player for Milan and won’t be allowed to leave on the cheap.
Liverpool aren’t the biggest spenders around either, meaning rival interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United is a concern.
Fikayo Tomori could be what Liverpool need
Liverpool may be in the market for another centre back this summer.
Virgil van Dijk is still a quality defender but he would admit himself that this hasn’t been his best season.
Joel Matip continues to suffer injury problems and few could blame Joe Gomez for wanting to leave the club.
If one or more of those defenders move on, Liverpool will certainly need to invest in another centre back.
Tomori could be their man and you can see why.
The 25-year-old still has plenty of untapped potential and he has showcased his impressive pace on numerous occasions.
Tomori may not be a key part of the England squad but he is one of the top centre backs around Europe.
Tomori has featured against Liverpool in the past too, even once admitting that Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were his toughest opponents.
If Liverpool firm up their interest, Tomori may well be able to call Salah a teammate at Anfield, which he would surely prefer over having to face him any time soon.
