Liverpool are interested in signing Jacob Ramsey as they consider a summer move for the Aston Villa midfielder.
That is according to a report from Goal, who claim that Ramsey is one of many midfielders on the Liverpool radar.
Liverpool have backed away from the Jude Bellingham race with the Borussia Dortmund man simply too expensive.
The Reds may now choose to invest in a number of midfield players to completely overhaul Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.
Ramsey now appears to be on Liverpool’s wish list having enjoyed a strong season under Steven Gerrard and now Unai Emery.
Ramsey has bagged four goals and five assists in 28 Premier League outings this season.
The 21-year-old has picked up three goals and two assists in his last five games, proving to be a driving force in Emery’s side.
Villa won’t encourage any offers for their homegrown midfielder and it’s hard to see him leaving Villa Park any time soon.
Steven Gerrard is a big fan of Jacob Ramsey
Liverpool need to breathe new life into their midfield and, in a dream world, they would find their next Steven Gerrard.
Ramsey actually spent a year working under Gerrard at Villa Park, no doubt learning plenty from one of the finest Premier League midfielders of all time.
Gerrard was certainly a big fan of Ramsey during their time together at Villa Park.
Speaking to Sky Sports last season, Gerrard called Ramsey a ‘top talent’ and predicted that he would become a ‘terrific’ player.
Gerrard was backing Ramsey for an England call-up over a year ago, and that doesn’t seem too far-fetched right now.
Gerrard still has Liverpool very close to his heart and would no doubt love to see Ramsey in a Liverpool shirt.
Whether the Reds can actually come up with an offer to tempt Villa into selling is a different matter though, and we can’t really see this move materialising this summer.
