Liverpool have taken the lead in the race to sign LOSC Lille midfielder Renato Sanches with FC Barcelona unable to afford the Portuguese international.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants face an impossible financial obstacle in trying to signing Sanches. As a result, Liverpool are now the ‘most likely’ side to sign the 23-year-old Lille star.
Moreover, as per the report, the reigning Ligue 1 champions will be open to selling Sanches this summer for €40m (£33m). Lille are eager to offload some players this window due to the financial state of the club.
With Liverpool eager to find a long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, there is a good chance that Jurgen Klopp’s side will attempt to sign Sanches.
Multiple clubs have been interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer. Arsenal and Bayern have expressed a liking to the midfielder. However, Liverpool now look to be in pole position for Sanches.
Sanches was key to Lille’s surprise Ligue 1 triumph last season. The midfielder made 23 appearances in the league, scoring one and assisting three.

And the Portuguese star’s performances have caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest sides.
Indeed, with Lille needing to sell and clubs with deep pockets looking to sign a dynamic midfielder this window, Sanches could be an excellent addition for Liverpool should the Merseyside giants attempt to sign the Benfica academy graduate.
The midfielder has proved to be one of Europe’s most exciting midfielders. And in a Liverpool squad bolstering plenty of talent in the centre of the park, Sanches will be welcomed at Anfield.
