According to ESPN, Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Arsenal wonderkid Bukayo Saka, who has quickly turned into a Premier League star.

What’s the story?

Well, ESPN believe Liverpool could make a move for the £30,000-a-week man if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Saka finds himself out of contract in June 2023, so it will be an interesting summer for the Liverpool target.

If the 20-year-old becomes unsure about committing himself to the Gunners, then Mikel Arteta may have to think about cashing in, or he risks losing the youngster on a free transfer.

ESPN add that Manchester City are also keeping tabs on Saka.

The 14-cap England international has enjoyed a meteoric rise since breaking into the Arsenal first-team.

Saka has become a regular for England, while amassing 80 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

Bukayo Saka could be heir to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool

Interestingly, Mohamed Salah finds himself in a similar situation to Saka in terms of his contract, as the Egyptian’s terms also expire in June 2023.

It would be a nightmarish scenario if Salah leaves Anfield, although Saka could one day become the heir to his throne.

Look at it this way. While the Arsenal gem is nowhere near as prolific in front of goal as Salah, there is a lot to suggest he will be one day.

Saka – like Salah – is left footed, but often lines up on the right of the attack.

The pair enjoy driving forward with the ball, where they tend to cut inside and shoot, or assist a teammate.

There are many similarities to their game, and if Saka is already this good at the age of 20, there’s no reason why he can’t be Liverpool’s replacement for Salah in the long-term.
