Liverpool have missed out on a potential seven-figure windfall after Joao Teixeira opted for a return to Portugal, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Teixeira agreed a four-year deal with FC Porto on Monday, with his Anfield contract due to expire.
However, as the attacking midfielder is under 24, Liverpool are entitled to training compensation, having nurtured him since the age of 19, when he arrived from Sporting CP.
Had Teixeira remained in England, the Reds could have taken the matter to a tribunal, where it is reported that a seven-figure sum would be expected.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp’s side will net a mere 300,000 euros (£250,000), in accordance with FIFA regulations, the Echo reports.
Teixeira was offered the chance to remain at Anfield, but cited first-team opportunities and a dream to play for Porto as the reason for his departure.
He played eight times for Liverpool, scoring once, and spent time on loan to Football League sides Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Portugal Under-23 international was named as the Reds’ academy player of the year in 2014-15, having scooped Brighton’s young player award that same season.
