According to The Mirror, Liverpool have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri, and could launch a move after the World Cup.
The Reds have already tied up one summer signing having snapped up Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from Monaco, whilst Naby Keita will join up with his new team following his pre-agreed move from RB Leipzig.
Klopp is still seeking attacking reinforcements though, and another left-footed wide man to offer cover and competition for Mohamed Salah may be wanted, especially having seen a deal for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir fall through over the weekend.
Liverpool do have budget options in mind, and The Mirror report that Liverpool have been given a boost in their pursuit of Stoke City wide man Xherdan Shaqiri, with a post-World Cup bid potentially in the pipeline.
It’s claimed that Liverpool have been given ‘encouragement’ about a deal for Shaqiri, and may pursue a bargain move given that he allegedly has a £12million release clause in his contract following Stoke’s relegation.
Shaqiri, 26, was Stoke’s standout player in a dismal campaign, notching eight goals and seven assists as he finally appeared to live up to the potential he showed at Basel.
The Swiss international will now head off to the World Cup and attempt to help his country emerge from a tricky group featuring Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica, but he could be heading to Anfield after the tournament.
Whilst Shaqiri didn’t impress at ‘big’ clubs before in Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, his Premier League displays suggest that Liverpool could land a bargain – and a smart Salah backup.
