Liverpool director of football Michael Edwards is reportedly set to leave Anfield in January for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

According to Sport Bild via RevierSport, the Liverpool figure is ‘expected’ to join the east German side in two months. It has already been reported that Edwards would depart the Reds at the end of this season. But his next destination had remained unknown.

However, it now looks like Leipzig will be the lucky side to win the race for Edwards. Reports in recent months have linked the former player to Newcastle United and Real Madrid. But it appears that Germany will be the director of football’s next mission.

Jurgen Klopp has never been afraid to publicly reveal his admiration for Edwards. With the Liverpool manager labelling the Anfield figure as ‘fantastic’ via the club’s official website following the signing of Takumi Minamino.

Indeed, it would be an understatement to say that Liverpool wouldn’t be where they are had it not been for Edwards. The 41-year-old was key in the signings for Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, three players who have transformed the Reds.

With Edwards also being behind some downright impressive sales for the likes of Dominic Solanke, Christian Benteke and Simon Mignolet, it’s no wonder that Liverpool fans are gutted that the director of football will be leaving.

Leipzig can become a European force under Edwards

As for Leipzig, adding Edwards to their already impressive player recruitment strategy seems like a cheat code you would only see in a video game. And with the Englishman, the German side could have the missing piece needed to become one of the best sides in Europe.

Despite impressing in the Bundesliga since their rise up the German pyramid, Leipzig are yet to win a league title. But under Edwards, they could have the man who can seek the players needed to build a side that can go down in history as one of the best in Europe.
