Liverpool have reportedly made the first move to lure FC Barcelona talent Ronald Araujo to Anfield this year, with the defender on the radar for multiple Premier League clubs.

According to Sport via FCBN, the 22-year-old Uruguayan defender has been in contact with Liverpool as well as the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with the Premier League trio all keen on signing Araujo.

The South American has been a rare out outlier for Barcelona in recent seasons, with Araujo proving to be a gem of a find from the Catalan side as the youngster has established himself as one of the top defenders in La Liga.

Manager Xavi Hernandez has already labelled the centre-back as ‘spectacular’, with CBS reporting that Barcelona will only sell Araujo, who has 18 months left on his current contract, if an offer of $90m (£66m) was made.

Indeed, with the future of Joe Gomez up in the air, there is a chance that Liverpool could make a move for Araujo in the near future.

Moreover, contract talks stalling, the defender could be allowed to move despite his promising career so far with Barcelona.

Liverpool will be taking a financial risk signing Araujo

Araujo has proven with Barcelona to be a real talent and a player who can be an established defender for a top club in Europe. However, whilst the Premier League could be suited to the Uruguayan, Liverpool might not be the best destination.

After all, Virgil van Dijk is likely to claim his throne as the world’s best centre-back for many years to come. And with the Reds going big on Ibrahima Konate last summer, another big-money centre-back signing is the last thing Liverpool need looking into the future.
