Liverpool centre-back Rhys Williams is likely to be loaned out this summer, goal.com suggest.

Jurgen Klopp has apparently decided that a temporary move away from Liverpool will be best for the youngster’s development.

Williams actually made 19 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this term.

The prospect really stepped up towards the end of the season, as the Reds secured their Champions League place.

However, with Liverpool planning on bringing Ibrahima Konate in, and many of their unfit central defenders back, Williams’ game time would have been severely limited next term.

As a result it seems that Klopp has decided to loan him out, according to the latest reports.

Correct call?

That looks to be a smart decision, as the prospect needs game time.

For all the good Williams has done in a Liverpool shirt, there are areas of his game which need working on.

That is no shame. The teenager was playing non league football last term and simply couldn’t have expected to look totally at home in Liverpool’s defence, after being thrust into contention.

But having a year away from Anfield to iron out any faults in his game looks like a great option.

It is clear to see Klopp rates Williams highly, he called him ‘outstanding’ in the Daily Mail during the past campaign.

And if Williams can impress out on loan then it is possible that he could return to Liverpool and stand a better chance at claiming a first-team spot in two seasons’ time.
