Liverpool are reportedly keen on Nice midfielder Jean Seri.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool have made contact with French side Nice over a deal to sign midfielder Jean Seri before this month’s transfer deadline.

The Reds opened their season with a 3-3 draw at Watford on Saturday afternoon, with Liverpool’s attack impressing but their defence struggling, as was the case all too often last season.

Liverpool’s midfield struggled to control the game at Vicarage Road, and after giving up on their long-standing pursuit or RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita, the Reds now look set to make a move for a new midfielder before the transfer deadline later this month.

The Guardian report that Liverpool are interested in signing Nice midfielder Jean Seri, with Reds officials allegedly making contact with the French club in recent days in a bid to agree a deal for the Ivorian.

Seri, 26, joined Nice from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2015, and excelled in a superb season under Lucien Favre last season, as he notched seven goals and nine assists to help Nice reach the Champions League qualifying rounds, and played a key part in knocking out Ajax recently.

With a good engine, superb ability on the ball and an excellent passing range, Seri could be the ideal alternative to Keita at a fraction of the cost, as it’s claimed that Nice want £34million for Seri – less than half of what Liverpool offered Keita.

Nice's Ivorian midfielder Jean Michael Seri kicks the ball during the French L1 football match Nice vs Angers on May 14, 2017, at the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice, southeastern France.

With talks underway, Liverpool may need to seal a deal quickly, as it’s noted that Tottenham Hotspur and Merseyside rivals Everton are also interested in signing Seri, whilst Arsenal could make a move if they can raise funds for a bid.

It’s even noted that Barcelona have been interested in Seri, but having signed Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande, Liverpool could now be the favourites to land the Ivorian international this month.
