Liverpool made a big money bid for Juventus central defender Merih Demiral in the January transfer window, Sport MediaSet claim.

Liverpool have plenty of irons in the fire on deadline day, with the club ultimately bringing in both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies to strengthen their backline.

But reports suggest that the Reds may have had some more expensive targets in mind earlier in the window.

Demiral is said to have been one of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s first choice picks, with the Turkish defender the subject of strong interest.

Liverpool are said to have made a ‘monster’ bid for the defender, who they valued at around £50 million, but after seeing it rejected by Juventus, Klopp’s side moved on.

It would be somewhat of a surprise if the claims actually are true, as Liverpool repeatedly stated that they didn’t have huge money to spend.

That being said, the Reds weren’t looking at a short term fix, and Demiral is thought to be a player who has been on their radar for a while.

If Demiral was brought to Anfield he could have been an excellent addition to Klopp’s side, with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, just one of his many admirers (Leicester Mercury).
