A striker reportedly on Liverpool’s radar earlier this summer will soon be a Benfica player, according to reports in Portugal.
Liverpool are one of the clubs credited with an interest in the Freiburg front man, Luca Waldschmidt, by Fussballeck.
The rumour emerged around the time another alleged Reds target, Timo Werner, was closing in on a move to Chelsea.
And if Liverpool are still to add to their striking ranks this window, they appear to have missed their chance with Waldschmidt.
O Jogo claims the 24-year-old is now set for a medical in Lisbon, after Benfica reached an agreement for his transfer on Tuesday.
Waldschmidt scored or made 11 goals in 24 games last season and earned three caps for Germany within it.
His release clause is said to be set at £20.8 million, although it is unclear how much Benfica, with whom Waldschmidt will reportedly sign a five-year contract, would pay.

As well as Roberto Firmino, who tends to lead the Liverpool line when fit, the Reds have Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster as options at centre forward.
Both players have, however, been linked with moves away from Anfield this summer.
