According to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, Liverpool are lining up a summer swoop for Real Madrid stopper Keylor Navas, as Jürgen Klopp looks to solve his long-standing goalkeeper issues at Anfield.

The Reds have been mightily impressive going forward this season, but their defensive frailties continue to hamper their progress domestically.

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both committed high-profile errors on a regular basis, and the addition of a top-class goalkeeper in the summer will surely be a necessity, if the Merseyside outfit are to make a real challenge for the Premier League title.

Diario Gol claim that Klopp has identified Navas as the ideal summer signing.

Is the 31-year-old actually what Liverpool need though?

Navas is a consistent performer, and a decent shot-stopper, but he isn’t exactly the most physically imposing goalkeeper, and that is what the Reds really need – someone to dominate their 18-yard box with authority.

Karius and Mignolet are obviously not good enough, and if Liverpool really want to become world-beaters, they need to spend some serious cash on an elite stopper.

Someone like Roma’s Alisson Becker or Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak would fit the bill perfectly.

Navas is a decent goalkeeper, but not at the level required to help the Merseysiders achieve Premier League and Champions League glory.
