Reports emanating from Italy today suggest that the Reds are leading the race to sign talented Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, and are considering making a summer move for the 20-year-old, according to Italian media outlet La Nuova.
Jürgen Klopp is expected to be extremely active throughout the summer transfer window, and with his penchant for signing young players with incredible potential, the Italian under-20 international would fit that criteria perfectly.
Barella burst on to the scene at Cagliari this season, and has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit.
He is exceptionally gifted from a technical perspective, and has attributes similar to Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso.
And whilst he obviously has a long way to go to reach the heights of the Spaniard, he has the basic ingredients needed to become a real star.

La Nuova report of Liverpool’s concrete interest by stating that Klopp sent his scouts to run their eyes over Barella during Cagliari’s 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina, and that they returned with glowing references regarding the young playmaker.
The Italian media outlet go on to suggest that there are many clubs interested in signing Barella though, so the Reds will not have things all their own way.
