According to Goal, Liverpool are admirers of Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Everton defender is currently out on loan at PSV where he is shining in the Eredivisie.
The 20-year-old defender joined Everton from Carlisle United in January 2020, but he’s yet to establish himself in the Premier League. However, after this season in Holland, that may change.
Branthwaite’s move to PSV has been successful so far, with the youngster establishing himself as a starter in Eindhoven as PSV push for a Champions League place next season.
Liverpool’s interest in Branthwaite is intriguing. After all, Everton are one of their biggest rivals and Branthwaite is one of their most promising talents.
Branthwaite is a tall, strong, and technically gifted centre-back who looks every bit a Premier League defender these days.
Liverpool’s interest in Branthwaite is not surprising, given that they could do with a defensive refresh, and as a talented, homegrown player, Branthwaite does tick a lot of boxes for the Reds.
Everton will likely be reluctant to sell one of their most promising young players, but the lure of Liverpool may be too strong to resist, especially if Everton are ultimately condemned to relegation this season.
It’s rare to see two players move between Everton and Liverpool. In fact, it’s not happened since the 2001/02 season when Abel Xavier left the Toffees to join the Reds, while you have to go back to the early 90s to find a player who left Liverpool for Everton in the shape of Peter Beardsley.
All in all, this is a very intriguing transfer rumour, and while a deal may be difficult to do, if Everton are relegated this season, the door could be open for the Reds to swoop and pinch one of their rivals’ most talented young players.
