According to Fussballeck, Liverpool have joined the battle to sign Freiburg attacker Luca Waldschdmit this summer after allegedly backing away from Timo Werner.
The Mirror claim that Liverpool won’t meet the £50million release clause in Werner’s contract. They now seemingly won’t be continuing their pursuit of the RB Leipzig star.
Jurgen Klopp may still want another striker though, and reports in Germany suggest it’s another Bundesliga attacker on his radar.
It’s stated that Liverpool now want Freiburg ace Waldschmidt. Leipzig themselves want him, but so do Chelsea and Barcelona.
He would allegedly cost around €15million (£13.5million), which is a more appealing price tag than the £50million being demanded for Werner.
Naturally though, Waldschmidt isn’t quite at Werner’s level. This season, the 24-year-old has notched six goals and three assists in 18 appearances.

Waldschmidt hit nine goals and three assists last season, and now has three caps for Germany too. He was a star for their Under-21’s, smashing 10 goals in 15 caps.
He is able to play up front or as a false nine, which could make him a candidate to support Roberto Firmino. With potential and a reasonable price tag, Waldschmidt could be an under-the-radar addition for the Reds, as he hasn’t quite hit the big time yet despite the major interest.
