According to The Mirror, Liverpool have joined Everton in the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere at the end of the season.

Wilshere, 26, has been on the books with Arsenal since joining from Luton Town back in 2001, and whilst he was tipped for stardom from a young age, his career has ultimately been something of a disappointment.

The midfielder has suffered from injuries and competition for places at Arsenal, meaning he has been in and out of Arsene Wenger’s team – but he could now be heading out of the club altogether.

Wilshere’s contract expires this summer, and with no sign of an agreement on a new deal, the England international could walk away for nothing this summer, and Liverpool are understood to have joined the race.

Reunion with Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool already have one midfielder heading to Anfield this summer, given that RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita is set to complete his move which was agreed way back in August 2017.

However, with Emre Can nearing an exit given that his contract expires this summer, Liverpool may still be in the market for another midfielder, and Wilshere fits the bill on a free transfer.

Liverpool’s rivals Everton are understood to have already made an offer for Wilshere, but Jurgen Klopp is now lurking in the race to land him, potentially offering him a reunion with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The duo have not only played together for England, but also for Arsenal, and could feature alongside Keita in revamped Liverpool midfield for next season, though Manchester City are also thought to be keen on landing Wilshere this summer.
