Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Hoffenheim defender Fabian Schar, according to the Daily Star, and are confident about doing a deal for the Switzerland international.
The Daily Star reports that the Reds sent scouts to monitor the 24-year-old during his country’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.

But it seems unlikely that the scouts would have had to do much convincing about the centre-back’s ability as the Daily Star adds that Jurgen Klopp has been keeping an eye on Schar since before his move to the Bundesliga in 2015.
However, they are, unsurprisingly, not the only side interested in signing him in the coming months, as the Daily Star reports that Inter Milan are planning to be in the running.

But despite the Nerazzurri’s interest, the Star suggests that the Merseyside club are optimistic about their chances of getting a deal across the line.
Despite the fact that Liverpool could join those at the top of the table with a win over Manchester United, Klopp’s men arguably need further depth in the centre of defence.
No side in the top eight has conceded more often than the Reds this term – despite the fact that six of those teams have played one more game – so having a player like Schar in their ranks could provide a massive boost.
The former Basel man boasts plenty of experience on the continental and international stage. And with his best years set to be ahead of him, he could prove to be a key addition for the Reds if they manage to get a deal across the line.
