Italian outlet CalcioMercato has claimed Liverpool have intensified talks with the agents of Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos ahead of the summer transfer window, with a four-year deal being prepared.

The 21-year-old playmaker joined Zinedine Zidane’s side last summer for a fee believed to be around the £15million mark, but has has struggled to make an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The likes of Isco, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Marco Asensio remain ahead of the former Real Betis star, who has 24 caps with Spain’s Under-21 side.

It has seen Ceballos make just 20 appearances in all competitions for Real this season, 13 of which have been from the substitutes’ bench. Yet, he has still shown his class in glimpses, scoring a brace against Alaves in September.

The report claims Real value Ceballos at around £35million, which has put off Italian champions Juventus who have been credited with an interest since his future became in doubt.

But with six years remaining on his current deal, the ball remains in Real’s court as they will make the final decision on his future. Zidane must weigh up whether he sees enough first-team potential in Ceballos, or if he would rather a top up on his summer transfer budget.
