According to The Mirror, Liverpool have insisted on two clauses being added into Joe Allen’s proposed move to join Stoke City.
Allen, 25, joined the Reds from Swansea City back in the summer of 2012, as he followed his former Swans manager Brendan Rodgers to Anfield in a big-money move.
A technically impressive player with tenacity and passing ability, Allen has become popular with Liverpool fans – but not quite so popular with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Rodgers back in October.
Allen struggled for first-team football after Klopp’s arrival, but showed what he can do with regular playing time by starring for Wales as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
His performances have triggered major interest, and it appears that Liverpool have decided to let Allen leave for a Premier League rival, as Stoke City – managed by Welshman Mark Hughes – have made their move for the player.
Initially billed as a £13m deal, The Mirror report that the move may actually end up earning Liverpool at least £15m due to two clauses that the Reds are insisting to be included.
The report claims that Liverpool want an agreement to earn additional money if Stoke stay in the Premier League next season, and then more money on top of that if Stoke can finish above ninth place, where they ended up last season.
Liverpool’s additional demands don’t appear to be holding the deal up, as the report adds that Allen’s move to Stoke is expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours, and he will fly out to join up with the Stoke squad in the next 48 hours, with Swansea failing to re-sign their former star.
