According to 90min, Liverpool are interested in signing Weston McKennie from Schalke in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the Liverpool hierarchy view the 21-year-old midfielder as ‘a viable long-term target’.

The report has claimed that the Reds have been scouting the USA international since 2017, and that there is a belief at the club that the he ‘could be the ideal candidate to step in at Anfield once the current crop of midfielders begin to decline’.

It has been further claimed that the American is interested in making a move to the Premier League.

Stats

According to WhoScored, McKennie made 24 starts and four substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Schalke this season, scoring three goals in the process.

The midfielder made 19 starts and five substitute appearances in the league during the 2018-19 campaign, scoring one goal and providing four assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Good signing for Liverpool?

McKennie is a very good and promising young midfielder who has progressed well at Schalke.

Although Liverpool have a very strong midfield department, the Reds could do with a young and dynamic player such as McKennie for the long term.
