Liverpool have held “productive” talks with Mohamed Salah over a new contract, The Athletic has reported.

According to the publication, there’s no cause for concern regarding discussions with the Egyptian star.
The club wants to avoid letting the forward enter the final 12 months of his contract with it running down. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
Jurgen Klopp has already seen Gini Wijnaldum leave the club on a free transfer for Paris Saint-Germain.
Salah currently earns £200,000 a week but is bound to attract suitors due to his status in world football.
However, the Reds don’t want to rip up their wage structure to make the ‘real role model’ happy.
Salah too important to Liverpool amid contract talks
Of all the players in the squad, the former Basel man is probably the last player Klopp would want to lose.
His importance to the side can’t be understated. Last season was an underwhelming campaign by the 28-year-old’s standards, yet he still scored 31 goals across all competitions.
It’s not a stretch to claim Salah is the most important player at Liverpool amid talks over a new contract.
The club doesn’t want to upset its current wage structure, however, so in the absence of a viable replacement they may have to break the bank in this case.
