Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso appears to be on Chelsea’s radar even if he is unlikely to become their new manager.
The Blues sacked Graham Potter on Sunday night and appear to be closing in on a short-term replacement.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Chelsea are close to re-appointing Frank Lampard as their manager until the summer.
Chelsea are still looking for a long-term appointment though with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique targeted.
Another name on Chelsea’s radar is Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso.
The Guardian now report that Chelsea have ‘admiration’ for Alonso but isn’t likely to be targeted for the job this time around.
Chelsea are mindful that Alonso is fairly inexperienced as a manager and the jump to Stamford Bridge may be too big right now.
Still, Chelsea will surely keep close tabs on Alonso moving forward and could attempt to land him down the line.

Alonso has certainly impressed in the early stages of his career as Leverkusen boss.
The 41-year-old has won 14 of his 25 games in charge of the club, losing seven and drawing four.
Now up to seventh in the Bundesliga table, Leverkusen are also into the last eight of the Europa League and moving forward under Alonso.
Interest in Alonso was always going to come but it’s a surprise to hear that Chelsea are the ones interested.
Many would expect Liverpool to have Alonso firmly on their radar as a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp.
Alonso was a hero in his Liverpool playing days, racking up more than 200 appearances for the club after arriving from Real Sociedad in 2004.
Whilst many expected Steven Gerrard to become Liverpool boss one day, Alonso seems to actually be a better shout at this point.
Liverpool fans will be glad that Alonso seemingly isn’t heading to Chelsea right now.
The Reds hierarchy may just be pleased too amid claims from Goal that Liverpool are looking at Alonso as a potential Klopp successor.
