Liverpool have apparently blown Barcelona out of the water in regards to signing Ronald Araujo.
The Camp Nou powerhouse is heavily linked with a transfer away from the Catalan outfit this summer.
At 23, Araujo is nowhere near his peak and Liverpool have been linked with him in recent weeks.
However, ESPN have reported that the Anfield outfit have stepped up their efforts in a major way recently.
According to that publication, Liverpool have offered the Uruguay international around £6 million per year to come to Merseyside.
Araujo is out of contract with Barcelona during the summer of 2023 and the Reds’ reported offer is far more substantial than anything offered by the Primera Division club.
According to ESPN, which is co-written by Moises Llorens, they have only offered Araujo a contract worth £4 million a year.
When you crunch the numbers, Liverpool’s proposal equates to around £40,000 per week more.
Do Liverpool need him?
Honestly, probably not at the moment but long term, perhaps.
Jurgen Klopp already has Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate on Merseyside.
However, Van Dijk and Matip are over 30 and Gomez is linked with a summer transfer away from Anfield.
If Liverpool plan to move for long-term Van Dijk and Matip replacements then yes, this Araujo report certainly has its merits.
