According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool have inserted an interesting clause in Takumi Minamino’s loan deal that saw him join Southampton on deadline day.
Indeed, the Reds have apparently negotiated a deal that incentivises Southampton to give him more game time during his spell at St Mary’s.
The Athletic report that Liverpool have negotiated a clause that would see the Reds paid more if Minamino plays fewer games.
It’s unknown what the thresholds are for this clause and how much money Liverpool would be due of Minamino doesn’t reach the minutes required, but on the surface this looks like a win-win situation for the Merseyside outfit.
Minamino has gone to Southampton to get more games, and this gives the Saints more of an incentive to play him, and even if he doesn’t manage to play a lot, Liverpool will benefit as they’ll receive a financial windfall.

This is a very clever move from the Reds, and when you factor in the £500,000 loan fee and the fact that Southampton are covering the entirety of his wages, and this looks like a great move for both the club and the player.
Hopefully, Minamino has a great spell with Southampton and comes back ready to make a real impact on Liverpool’s first-team.
