According to The Mirror, Liverpool wanted to sell Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson this summer – but now fear their values are declining.
Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are set to depart Liverpool this summer when their contracts end, and more could be leaving Liverpool yet.
It’s stated that Liverpool were planning to sell Grujic as well as wingers Shaqiri and Wilson, with the idea of raking in around £60million or more.
Liverpool wanted to sell the trio to then fund a move for RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner. However, the global pandemic has hit their values.
It’s now thought that Liverpool will struggle to sell the trio for ‘any significant see at all’, meaning a deal for Werner is now thought to be off the table.
This is a less-than-ideal situation for Liverpool. They have thrived in the market in recent years, selling fringe players for big money before then reinvesting in big-money additions themselves.

Shaqiri clearly has no future at Anfield, but there may still be a chance to sell him. The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle United want to sign the Swiss winger once their takeover goes through, and their potential riches will give Liverpool hope of squeezing money out of them.
With Grujic and Wilson though, it’s a little trickier. Both are talented young players, and they have shown glimpses of their ability out on loan at Hertha Berlin and Bournemouth respectively.
However, they’re some way away from the Liverpool first team. If the Reds can’t sell them, Jurgen Klopp may be forced to use them in the hope of increasing their value for future transfer windows.
