According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have concerns about Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White’s height as they consider defensive options.

The Reds have seen Virgil van Dijk go down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, meaning he is now unlikely to play again this season, whilst Joel Matip is out injured too.

Dejan Lovren wasn’t replaced over the summer, meaning Fabinho is now expected to drop into the back four; this situation surely can’t last long, and Liverpool may need to find a new centre back.

This report states that Liverpool are considering Brighton star White, but have fears about his height when it comes to stepping into Van Dijk’s role.

The 23-year-old only stands at 6ft 1in tall, which is a full three inches short of Van Dijk, and could prevent Liverpool from making a move for the Englishman.

White is impressing in the Premier League, showing a great reading of the game and impressive technical ability, which could lend itself to playing for Liverpool – but he also signed a new deal at Brighton over th summer, and won’t be easy to sign.

The report adds that Liverpool were surprised when Lloyd Kelly turned them down in 2019, as he chose a move to Bournemouth instead of heading to Anfield.

Kelly’s ability to play at left back too could be appealing, but Kelly hasn’t really shown the ability to suggest that he can step in for Van Dijk, meaning Liverpool may need to look elsewhere.
