According to The Athletic, Liverpool were left very impressed by Benfica’s Rafa Silva during their time researching Darwin Nunez.

Rafa and Nunez formed quite the partnership at Benfica, with the winger playing a huge part in the Uruguayan’s 26-goal haul last term, and during their time researching Nunez, the Reds’ recruitment department also liked the look of Rafa.

However, at the age of 29, a move for the Benfica man wouldn’t make too much sense at this point of his career. He has very little resale value and the Reds are very much looking to invest in their future from this point onwards.

Unfortunately, Liverpool didn’t spot Rafa a few years ago because he looks like a player who is ready-made for Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Indeed, a speedy winger who can beat any defender he comes up against, Rafa has been dubbed the ‘Portuguese Eden Hazard’ for a reason, but sadly, his chance to play in the Premier League has eluded him up until this point.

Newcastle and Wolves have been linked in the past, but the fact that Liverpool have been wowed by the 29-year-old goes to show that he’s more than capable of playing for one of England’s top sides.

With Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all looking to bring in new wingers, perhaps Rafa will emerge as an option for one of those teams in the coming weeks. After all, if Liverpool are impressed, he must have something special about him.

A move to Anfield probably won’t materialise, but Rafa is certainly a player to keep an eye on nonetheless.
