According to a report from Turkish media outlet Fanatik, Liverpool have had an €18 million (£15.9 million) bid rejected by Besiktas for Domagoj Vida, and the two clubs remains a long way apart on their respective valuations of the player.

Reds boss Jürgen Klopp has already been busy this summer, bringing in midfield duo Fabinho and Naby Keita for just short of £100 million, but many believe that the German has to add another top class defender to his ranks, if he is to guide his side to major honours this season.

Vida would certainly fit the bill at Anfield, after displaying his undoubted quality whilst representing Croatia at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Liverpool will reportedly have to nearly double their opening offer, though, if they want to bring the Croatian to Merseyside.

Turkish publication Fanatik claims that Besiktas are holding out for €35 million (£31 million) for Vida, and whether the Reds are prepared to meet that valuation remains to be seen.
