If rumours are to be believed, Liverpool want to sign Raphael Varane.

According to Diario Madridista, the Premier League champions are keen on bringing the Real Madrid powerhouse to Anfield this summer.

That report adds that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ‘loves’ the player and it’ll be fascinating to see whether the speculation is accurate.

And a more credible source has certainly offered a potential boost for the Reds in this regard.

According to AS, the Spanish giants are ‘open’ to receiving offers for the France international, who has a £433 million release clause.

Varane will only have one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu and with contract talks stagnating, Real are willing to cash in rather than let him enter the final year of his deal.

Liverpool will certainly be in the market for central defenders this summer after an unprecendented injury crisis has ruined their hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

And if the money is right, which it looks like it will be unless Varane signs a new deal, then the 27-year-old might just be a genuine candidate to improve that defence.
