Report: Liverpool handed fitness boost ahead of Southampton clash, injured player could return

Xherdan Shaqiri was back in Liverpool training yesterday, the Liverpool Echo have reported.

Shaqiri has not been seen at the AXA Training Centre recently, with the attacker seemingly nursing a problem.

But he was back featuring for Liverpool yesterday and the Echo now suggest he should be fit for the weekend.

That looks a boost to Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have utilised Shaqiri off the bench on occasion this season.

Shaqiri may not have been able to force his way into Liverpool’s team on a permanent basis, but his creative influence has been highlighted late on in games at times.

The Swiss international may actually be making his last few appearances for Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Shaqiri has been linked with an exit from Anfield by multiple sources, including the Sunday World, with Klopp’s side apparently thinking about selling him.

Shaqiri could still be of use between now and the end of the campaign, though.

Liverpool have a real battle on their hands to claim a top four spot, and will need to finish the campaign strongly to have any chance of claiming a Champions League spot.

The Reds are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Southampton at Anfield.
