Liverpool forward Diogo Jota’s injury will take longer to recover from the first expected, the Athletic have reported.

There were hopes that Jota would return for Liverpool at the start of this month, but he has still not even stepped back into training.

That means that Jota’s comeback is now looking to be behind schedule, and it could be a matter of weeks rather than days before he returns.

James Pearce has claimed that Jota will need more time to get back up to speed, which looks to be another blow to Liverpool, in what has been a season where they have been plagued with injury issues.

That being said, their attack has started to click into gear again recently.

Liverpool have now scored three goals in both of their last two games, with Jurgen Klopp’s side getting back to winning ways.

Liverpool looked to have a tough fixture list to contend with, but they have dispatched with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in the past week, and now have fought their way right back into title contention.
