Pedro Chirivella has passed a medical at Nantes and is on the verge of leaving Liverpool for the Ligue 1 outfit on a three-year deal, according to Ouest France.
While Jurgen Klopp might not be exactly losing sleep over the impending departure of a Spanish midfielder, Chirivella’s departure is hardly a welcome development.
The former Valencia youth captain has impressed whenever he has been called upon this season and, as recently as January, produced a Man of the Match performance as a team full of kids and benchwarmers knocked bitter rivals Everton out of the FA Cup.
No wonder, then, that Liverpool wanted to tie Chirivella down to a new deal with his current contract due to expire in the summer (Goal). Klopp is determined to ensure the Reds challenge on a number of fronts, meaning they need all the players they can get.
But, having just turned 23, it seems that Chirivella has grown tired with life on the sidelines. A man who has spent the last five years at Liverpool could get the regular first-team football he needs with a move across the Channel to Nantes.
And Ouest France claims that, after passing a medical on Wednesday, Chirivella is set to put pen to paper on a deal that would keep him with The Canaries until the summer of 2023.
The deep-lying playmaker has not featured in a single second of Premier League action across 2019/20. So who can blame him really for turning his back on what is, officially, the best football club on planet earth right now?
