According to Marca, Liverpool are fighting Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to sign Franck Kessie on a free transfer this summer.

What’s the story?

Well, the 25-year-old has decided to leave AC Milan when his contract expires in June, and Liverpool are hoping to sign him.

However, they will have to fend off two European giants if they are to do so.

Marca believe Kessie would prefer a move to Barcelona, although Liverpool and PSG are still in contention to sign him.

In fact, both sides will surely be able to blow Barcelona out of the water financially, as the Spanish side are struggling in that respect.

On his current terms, Kessie earns £69,000-a-week at the San Siro.

Marca add that Barcelona also want to sign Erling Haaland – in their current financial situation, it would surely be impossible to obtain both players.

So far this season, Kessie has scored six goals in 23 appearances for AC Milan.

Liverpool don’t need Franck Kessie

The central midfield department is actually Jürgen Klopp’s strongest area at Anfield, so the signing of Kessie would be unnecessary.

Liverpool already have Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Harvey Elliott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, James Milner and Curtis Jones.

That is also without mentioning 19-year-old Tyler Morton, who has broken into the first-team this season.

Signing Kessie would just eat into Liverpool’s funds to strengthen other areas – it would be an utterly pointless move.

Unless the Reds plan to lose four central midfielders in the summer, a move for the 52-cap Ivory Coast international should not be discussed.
