According to France Football, Liverpool failed with a second approach for Lyon defender Modibo Sagnan this summer having also come up short in January.

The Reds enjoyed a productive summer, as they brought in Alisson, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri, whilst Naby Keita’s planned move from RB Leipzig finally went through.

Some wanted Liverpool to bring in another centre back, but Jurgen Klopp decided not to, with the Reds seemingly failing to land a youngster to bolster his ranks.

France Football report that Liverpool again asked about signing Lens defender Modibo Sagnan, but were again batted away by the Ligue 2 outfit, having given them a similar message in January.

Lens don’t want to let Sagnan go, and he featured as a substitute in their 1-0 win over Red Star o Saturday as he begins to press towards the first team.

Lens have not only helped bring through talented centre backs like Raphael Varane and William Bianda in recent years, but also a host of other talents such as Serge Aurier, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Thorgan Hazard, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Wylan Cyprien.

Sagnan appears to be the latest top youngster off that conveyor belt, but Liverpool still can’t seem to tempt Lens into a deal, with two attempts now failed.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool push for Sagnan again in January 2019, but the defender – who can play at centre back or left back – appears to be a long-term target for the Reds.
