According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi, who is surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.
The Reds have decided to enter the market after Joel Matip suffered an injury against Tottenham.
Additionally, it is said that the 20-cap Germany international wants to change clubs this month, while the report adds that he could be available for a snip.
Sky Germany believe that Mustafi is available for a very low single-digit million sum, which could be anything under £10 million, realistically.
Interestingly, Sky Germany mention that Jurgen Klopp wanted the 28-year-old at Borussia Dortmund 12 years ago, when the centre-back was playing for Hamburger SV.
There have not been any concrete negotiations between Liverpool and Mustafi yet.
However, discussions would surely need to take place soon if the Reds are to sign him before Monday’s deadline.
In our view, as far as last-minute panic buys go, this wouldn’t be the worst one.
Why?
Well, it helps massively that Klopp has done his due diligence on Mustafi before, having made previous attempts to sign him for Dortmund.
Additionally, the Bad Hersfeld-born defender obviously has Premier League experience, meaning he wouldn’t need to waste time adjusting to life in England.
