Divock Origi hasn’t signed a new Liverpool contract yet.
The Telegraph has claimed that Liverpool are expecting a breakthrough regarding Divock Origi’s new contract very soon.
The Belgian, who’s out of contract at Anfield next summer [Transfermarkt], was offered a new deal shortly after helping Liverpool to Champions League glory on June 1.
Origi had a brilliant end to the 2018-19 campaign and scored some huge goals, including two in the famous 4-0 win over Barcelona at Anfield two months ago.
But the 24-year-old hitman is yet to sign the new agreement, though The Telegraph reports that the Reds expect a resolution shortly.
The report adds that even if he doesn’t extend his contract, Liverpool will keep Origi this season, ‘resisting any offers’ even at risk of losing him on a Bosman next summer.
With Daniel Sturridge gone, Origi and rookie striker Rhian Brewster are Klopp’s only alternatives for Roberto Firmino as a number nine.
What a turnaround it’s been for Origi in recent months. He came from nowhere toward the end of last season to score some very important goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side, including some in the Premier League.
That was unthinkable earlier in the season when Origi was lucky to make the bench, let alone actually play some minutes.
