Liverpool have joined the hunt for Benfica winger Renato Sanches, report the Liverpool Echo.
The 18-year-old is among the hottest properties in Europe after making the breakthrough into the first team this season.
The Echo report Sanches has a release clause in his Benfica deal at £62 million, but the Portuguese side could accept a lower offer of £47 million.
Even so this is a substantial amount, comparative with the fee Liverpool received from Manchester City for Raheem Sterling.
Splashing out mega money to sign unproven players is not believed to be the Jurgen Klopp way, with the manager having a shrewder reputation in the transfer market.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with Sanches, with The Mail reporting in January that the Red Devils were pushing hard to sign him.
Mendes is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Jose Mourinho, which could give United an advantage over Liverpool if they appoint the ex-Chelsea boss in the summer.
