Kalidou Koulibaly joining Liverpool is getting that bit more credible.

It was reported by Foot Mercato earlier this week that the 28-year-old Napoli defender would snub a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain due to a desire to join a Premier League club.

And if true, that’s very good news for Liverpool, one of only a few top-flight English clubs in the running to sign the Senegalese powerhouse – one of the others being Newcastle United, but a lack of Champions League football isn’t attractive for Koulibaly despite a reported £200,000-a-week contract offer [Le10 Sport]

And the likelyhood of him ending up at Anfield might be a tad more realistic, following a report from France.

According to Le 10 Sport, the reigning European champions have already drawn up an offer to Napoli for the big defender, whom the Italian club believe they can get €100 million [£89 million] for.

The report adds that Manchester United are the other Premier League club to offer a fee but, again, the Red Devils might not have Champions League football to lure Koulibaly to Old Trafford.

If Liverpool genuinely do want him then it seems like they have the status, the money and the European football to make it happen.

It’s a stretch to see the Merseyside club shelling out £89 million for a player that turns 29 this summer, not to mention the fact that their revenue is being hit hard by the global health emergency.

But Jurgen Klopp is still the most likely Premier League manager to have him in his squad come next season.
