Liverpool fans are looking forward to the 2021-22 campaign and rightly so.
The Premier League season kicks off in less than a month and Jurgen Klopp’s side will have a major point to prove.
The Reds mounted a dismal defence of their title last season but with injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, it’s understandable.
And although the duo are back in training for Liverpool now, having been taken on the pre-season trip to Austria, one of them sat out the session on Friday.
According to The Echo, Gomez, who hasn’t played for Liverpool since October, missed the session and although no explanation is offered, it’s a tad worrying.
Remember, the former Charlton powerhouse had injury problems even before the knee issue he picked up on international duty with England, so this could be a cause for concern.
Or, more plausibly, it could be merely a minor issue and there’s no reason to think he won’t be available for Klopp on August 14, when the Anfield side kick off their season against Norwich City.
Even if he has picked up a knock, Liverpool have greater depth at centre-back than since before last season began, with Ibrahima Konate joining in a £36 million deal from RB Leipzig earlier this summer.
