Liverpool continue to be linked with the talented midfielder.

According to a report from the Mirror, Liverpool could renew their interest in Belgium international Axel Witsel next year, with the midfielder set to leave Zenit St. Petersburg at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old has been a regular in the rumour mill for quite some time but up until now he has remained in Russia, making 162 appearances in the process.

However with confirmation that Witsel will leave Zenit at the end of his contract, the Mirror suggests Liverpool could be planning a fresh bid to bring him to Anfield in due course.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has impressed with his transfer business to date. However it would be no surprise to see him move for a new holding midfielder as soon as possible.

If he gets his man in January or next summer remains to be seen, yet there is no doubt Witsel would be a superb addition at Liverpool if the Reds can beat other interested parties to his signature.
If the international does ultimately leave for free – rather than in January – there will be a whole host of clubs interested in him and that could prompt Liverpool to make an early bid and potentially force through a move in the winter or agree a pre-contract agreement as they did with Joel Matip last season.
