According to the Telegraph, Wolves are not expecting to have Matheus Nunes for long, despite beating Liverpool to his signature.
What’s the story?
Well, it was Bruno Lage who the Telegraph believe played a vital role in bringing the Portugal international to Molineux, as Wolves sealed a £38m deal on Wednesday.
The Old Gold beat Liverpool to Nunes – some have claimed that he was “definitely” on the radar of Jürgen Klopp.
However, the Reds could still pinch the 23-year-old from Wolves.
The Telegraph are claiming that Wolves understand they may only get 12 months out of Nunes, but they expect to sell him for considerably more than the club-record £38m fee they just spent on him.
It is also said that Klopp – and Pep Guardiola – are planning to continue monitoring the Portuguese playmaker during his time in the Premier League.
By the sounds of it, Wolves may have just agreed to a glorified loan deal, which will see them make a bit of profit.
However, those at Molineux cannot be criticised for their business, as they are effectively £7m up after somehow convincing Nottingham Forest to pay £45m for Morgan Gibbs-White.
Liverpool should have tried harder to beat Wolves to Matheus Nunes
In our view, Liverpool should’ve made more of an effort to sign Nunes now.
After all, it will look very foolish if the Reds end up spending something close to £60m or more on him in 2023 if he enjoys an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.
Klopp needs more midfielders, to say the very least.

Thiago is prone to injuries, James Milner cannot start on a weekly basis due to his age, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cannot stay fit, while Naby Keita is unhappy and could leave.
For a side hoping to compete with Manchester City – who have incredible midfield depth, such as Kalvin Phillips deputising for Rodri – Liverpool need to sort out their options in that department.
Keep a close eye on Nunes this season – if he does well, he could be moving to Anfield in 2023.
