According to Il Matino, Napoli could now consider offers of €45 million (£39 million) for Kalidou Koulibaly due to the financial impacts of the pandemic.

The Italian news outlet states that Napoli are in need of cash, and removing the centre-back’s €7 million-a-season (£6 million) wages would help raise money.

Liverpool are mentioned as a potential destination within Il Matino‘s article, while Manchester United are also included.

Bayern Munich are also mentioned as potential suitors.

It is big news that the Serie A outfit are now willing to reduce their asking price for the 29-year-old, as they have rejected huge offers for him in the past.

Napoli’s chairman, Aurelio De Laurentiis, told Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via Goal) that he rejected a £95 million bid from Jose Mourinho in 2018.

“Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million.”

In that respect, clubs with enough cash would be foolish not to leap at the chance to sign the Senegal international for nearly £60 million less than that sum.

There’s no denying that the Napoli No.26 is one of Europe’s best centre-backs, and £39 million is a complete and utter bargain for his services.

Given Liverpool’s issues at centre-back this season, we feel Jurgen Klopp would be silly not to make every attempt to bring Sadio Mane’s international compatriot to Anfield.
