Liverpool are considering offering a contract to former Villarreal goalkeeper Javi Cendon after the teenager joined the Premier League champions for their pre-season trip to Austria, according to the Standard.

While Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that mega-money deals for the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jadon Sancho or Kai Havertz just aren’t going to happen during a period of unprecedented financial uncertainty, that does not mean the Merseyside giants will not add a new face or two to their squad.

Kostas Tsimikas, the buccaneering Greek international left-back, put pen to paper earlier this month.

A year after bringing Harvey Elliott and Sepp Van den Berg to Anfield, Liverpool could be about to add another exciting teenage talent to their ranks.

Cendon is currently without a club after leaving Villarreal despite winning the Spanish Youth Cup last season.

The 19-year-old has impressed the Liverpool staff, including goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, during a training camp in Austria however.

Cendon is now expected to return to Melwood as the Reds continue putting the youngster through his paces. Impress back in England and he could be rewarded with a permanent contract at the 2019 European champions.

The Liverpool Echo backs up those claims.

Cendon is likely to ply his trade with the U23s initially, though first-team opportunities could be on their way if he impresses behind the scenes – especially with Caoimhin Kelleher is farmed out on loan this summer.
